3rd Blog.

Hello.

This is my 3rd blog for my genius hour on hovercrafts. This blog will be on the history of hovercrafts in the Late 1950's-1960's. After the prototype of the SR.N1, in 1958 Christopher Cockerell and Saunders Roe made more hovercrafts. They made the SR.N1 Mk II, Mk III and Mk IV. The SR.N1 designs worked except they couldn't be classified as "Hovercrafts" as they were too close to the water when they were used. The solution was easily solved with the help of Cecil Latimer-Needham, following a suggestion made by his business partner Arthur Ord-Hume in 1958. He suggested to put two rings of rubber to produce a double-walled extension of the vents in the lower fuselage. Doing this resulted is the hovercraft achieving extra space above the water. Latimer and Christopher devised a 4 foot skirt for the SR.N1 Mk V This resulted in the hovercraft to be able to hop over waves and other possible objects easier. A few years later in 1961 Latimer sold his skirt ideas to Westland, a British aircraft manufacturer.

Nov 27 Blog.

Hello.

This is my 2nd blog about the history of hovercrafts from my first one. This one will be about what happened after and more different things too from my 1st blog. I will be doing 1-2 more blogs about hovercrafts and then I'll start doing blogs about hoverboards and hovering.

The first thing is what happened a few years later after 1958, (from when Mr. Cockerell made the first official hovercraft. In 1960 the demand for riding hovercraft rose quite high. The were the hit for traveling by water. Nobody wanted planes, boats, cars, no nothing. They only wanted to ride on hovercrafts. Ten years later passenger hovercrafts were introduced to the market. They were better because they could fit more than 1 person than they did before. Except there was a downside, because of the added weight from the extra 1-5 passengers the hovercrafts increased in weight so then they were slower. Therefore they went to places slower than usual and fuel costs rose up because of more refill and etc. After that part in history hovercrafts were less popular and less needed because of planes and cars getting more advanced. Nowadays there is only 1 actual hovercraft transportation in Britain that is the one between Southsea and Ryde. Other people were also involved in hovercraft inspiration and other thoughts about it. Thos people were: Sir John Issac Thornycroft (England), Tovio J. Kaario (Finland), and Vladimir Levkov (Canada).

This has been my 2nd blog about hovercrafts and other sorts. Stay tuned for my 3rd blog quite soon and my vlog.

Goodbye.

Nov 13 Blog.

Hello.

I'm Nolan and this is my first blog. The specific topics I am researching are: Hovercrafts, Hoverboards, and vehicles that hover. The first topic is about the Hovercrafts and so my first few blogs will be about them. I have decided to do the history of the hovercrafts and interesting facts about them. I will be doing more blogs about hovercrafts.

I figured out who "invented" the hovercraft. His name is : JOHN CE- actually wait. No, never mind. his name is Christopher Cockerell. and he named the hovercraft what it is today. He invented it in 1955-56 by taking a cat litter can and a large soup can and putting the cat one into the soup one. He blew air through the space between the 2 cans. The cat litter can hovered in the air until he couldn't blow anymore. There was a space between the two cans at the bottom caused by his air. He decided to call this: Hovering. Although this dates back to the years 1955-56, concepts of hovercrafts and other flying machines were thought of back in the early 1700's in Greece. Now back to real hovercraft history: A few years later in 1958 Christopher hired Saunders Roe to help construct the first "real" hovercraft. After years of prototypes they made the 20th hovercraft. This hovercraft however was the first to hover on water.

That has been all the research I have found out for my first blog. I wish to talk about the next blog later. See you soon!

Goodbye.
